Established in 1958, the department was initially named “Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine”, and was eventually renamed to “Department of Animal Science” in 1974.
The Graduate School of Animal Science was established in 1981 in order to provide well-trained experts in Animal Science.
The department building was completed in 1985.
The off-campus Experimental Animal Farm was established in 1989, which allowed students to proceed a better practice and research in animal feeding and management.
The Graduate School of Animal Science provided PhD program in 1991, enhancing the research foundation as well as the research achievements of the department.
The department building was renewed and expanded in 2005.
The on-campus Experimental Animal Farm was rebuilt and completed in 2015, which allows more than 1300 chickens, 200 water fowls, 50 rare birds, 160 pigs and 100 goats.
